Duke of Edinburgh Award Volunteer

Holly Powell (15) is a pupil at the South Nottinghamshire Academy here in Radcliffe. Last year she chose to do her volunteering towards her Bronze award at the Manor House. She is pictured in the courtyard which she helped to restore after it had become an unsightly overgrown area. Holly became involved because as she says “my mum works here”. This year Holly returned to volunteer while working towards her Silver award. When asked why?, she said she had really enjoyed her time here, mainly because she could see how the residents were happy. Holly has helped out serving teas to the residents and she has also spent time chatting to some of them. Holly admits to being shy and says that talking to older people has helped to boost her confidence when interacting with adults outside the home in her life in general.
